Wow, what a week. While episode #37 of The Three MMOsketeers was delayed, it might as well been for the better as some really crazy stuff happened in the big wild world of MMOs this week.
First up was The Secret World that decided to make subscriptions optional and aim for the same “box to play”-model that Guild Wars 2 uses. They also decided to tweak the F2P options for Age of Conan to make it more friendly for new players. Not to be outstaged by changes in business models or F2P tweaks, Turbine turned into necromancers and resurrected Asheron’s Call 2! What the deuce?
Then there are all the Christmas events going on around the MMO-sphere – Frostfell in Everquest 2, Fae Yule in Rift, the end of the world as we know it in The Secret World, Wintersday in Guild Wars 2, Christmas with Q in Star Trek Online… Asked by a listener, we also try to figure out which seasonal event is the best and which is worse. Then we turn to a question about Kickstarter.
