Instanews #18: 2012-04-07

50 mins - Published Sat, Apr 7, 2012 by Breki Tomasson and Jack Marshall

This is Geek Positive for Saturday, April 7th.

As if it weren’t enough that I had microphone issues that led me to drop out completely for a few seconds last week, in this episode I come in sounding way too warm and don’t notice it until twenty minutes into the podcast. I blame the cats.

Anyway; this time around, Jack and I talk about the suddenly viral Daily Mail article by Samantha Brick, a bit of trivia around The X-Files, including great episodes like Anasazi and Herrenvolk. Also, Harmonix announces Rock Band Blitz! We speak briefly about the Extended Cut DLC for Mass Effect 3, which came right on the heels of Electronic Arts being voted the Worst Company in America. After that, plenty of talk about The Avengers, a movie that is neither the 1961 television series also called The Avengers or the 1998 movie called The Avengers, which starred Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman (Not Sean Connery and Elizabeth Hurley, even though Sean Connery did have a role in it). Last but not least, the latest episode of Game of Thrones.

The musical feature of the day is Zelda 3: Episode 2 by The Amazing Brand0.

Instanews

Instanews was another one of Breki's attempts to create a tech news podcast in the long chain of iterative podcasts that includes Geek Positive, CSICON Radio, The Brainstorm and Geekdays. It ran for 129 episodes, initially co-hosted by Jack Marshall and, in the final run of episodes, by Teppo Tastic.

Both Petter Mårtensson and Arkenor Oakshadow featured as regular guests for a segment known as The Deathmatch of Death and More Death, a ladder-style competition that pit heroes and villains from popular culture against each other. Petter and Arkenor would argue the case for their randomly picked hero of the week, and listeners would vote via the website.
